Brenda Clack, Democrat
Candidate for: Genesee County Board of Commissioners - 2nd District
Response:*
My candidacy in this 2008 election as a Genesee County Commissioners has proved to be both challenging and exciting. It is truly exciting to look at what the future holds for Genesee County. To envision where Genesee County can and will be 10 years and beyond is most invigorating. Flint has the potential to aggressively move ahead with the right leadership at the helm. I, as a candidate for the Genesee County Board of Commission, offer the type of leadership this community needs and desires.
I feel that the elected body of commissioners must work collectively to make the right decisions. These decisions to be made must always provide a positive impact on the residents of Genesee County and that impact should resonate around the state of Michigan.
It is quite obvious that this county will never completely divorce itself from the General Motors Era of prosperity. We do however realize that this time will not be resurrected again. Yet we do have the potential to shine by concentrating our resources more in the technology area. We can realize that potential faster by encouraging more collaborative efforts and projects to directly benefit our citizens. We must also encourage collaboration with our education institutions for they will provide the manpower needed for the 21st century job programs.
The county must always provide the services expected by its citizens. It is most imperative that we provide our senior citizens with all services entitled to them for they depend on us.
These are not the times to be neither divisive nor partisan if we are to successfully impact the lives of all in Genesee County resident. Divisiveness will only contribute to the inability of us to progress in this county. Yes, these are tough economic times, but tough times demand tough decisions. A good commissioner must be prepared to make such decisions and stand ready to support them.
With low employment rates, thousands of uninsured and underinsured citizens, struggling businesses, high gas prices, marginal academic success in our schools and finally massive numbers of home foreclosures, the most prudent and well thought out decisions are the order of the day.
These decisions are predicated on the state budget. Therefore, in the fiscal sense, the state and county must try to work in concert. We as citizens of Genesee County must also work diligently to provide an atmosphere to create high skill and high wage jobs. We have the potential and resources to do what is needed. We simply need the right leadership.
We, as citizens of Genesee County have much to be concerned about. That is why I am asking for your vote for Genesee County Commissioner. I worked very hard as the 34th District State Representative and I pledge to continue working hard as your 2nd District Genesee County Board of Commissioner.
